Greetings from the Organizing Committee of the ACTO 2013

It is our great pleasure to announce that the fourth meeting of Asian Cellular Therapy Organization (ACTO) has been scheduled from July 18th to 20th, 2013, at the National Health Research Institue (NHRI), Zhu-Nan, Taiwan.

The main purpose of this meeting is for researchers, clinicians, business persons and regulators to share knowledge and expertise regarding the development of equipment and treatments in the field of cellular therapy, i.e. hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, immunotherapy, regenerative medicine and gene therapy.

In most Asian countries, expertise in innovative cellular therapy and the development of equipment for clinical use have not been well explored. Additionally, regulatory guidelines for approval processes have not yet been firmly established, although these are essential for the development of new ideas for clinical application. These are serious obstacles for the development of our own research seeds. In this meeting, we expect to have an active discussion in a rather informal atmosphere, and will cover a variety of topics regarding cellular therapy. We believe that this meeting will help enhance communications between Asian researchers and regulators.

Your participation will be critical to make this meeting successful. We look forward to an exciting event and to seeing you in Zhu-Nan, Taiwan!

Sincerely yours,

President

Dear ISCT Asia members

It is our pleasure to announce that ISCT Asian Regional Meeting changed to a new academic society named ACTO (Asian Cellular Therapy Organization).

ISCT Asia was one of to branch societies of ISCT (International Society for Cellular Therapy) as ISCT-Europe and ISCT-Australia/New-Zealand. From last year, these regional operations have appealed that the autonomous regional activity independent of ISCT HQ was important for region-oriented development of cellular therapy.

On May 2011, our Asian group decided to establish a new group for progress of cellular therapy more based on Asian situation. Along with the independence from ISCT, the name was changed to ACTO by many members’ suggestions.

Even though the name was changed, the aim and activity of our society continue without change. The 2nd Meeting will also be held on October 17-20, 2011 at Miyazaki, like as last year, named as “The 2nd Meeting of ACTO”.

It would be greatly appreciated if you worked together for the new Asian Cellular Therapy Organization.

Sincerely,
Akihiro Shimosaka, Ph. D,
Chairperson, ACTO

Senior Research Adviser
Division of Stem Cell Therapy
Center for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine
The Institute of Medical Science,
The University of Tokyo

Director
Research and Development Division
Research Foundation for Community Medicine

P.S.

This year, the 3rd meeting of ACTO will be held in Chiang Mai,
Thailand on Nov.16 and 17, 2012. We will give you further
information about it as soon as possible.

To Committee members and Region Members

To Committee members of ISCTasia Regional Operation and ISCTasia Region Members

Dear Friends :

I would like to express our sincere gratitude to your suppport and encouragement for Japanese who are now facing the disaster caused by M 9.0 earthquake, tsunami and ongoing accident at nuclear power plants in Fukushima.

As you may remember, we organized the first Asian regional Meeting for ISCT at Miyazaki last year. We are planning to have the second ISCTasia meeting in coming October at the same city. However, considering the last disaster, we will make a final desicion whether we will be able to host the meeting at the beginning of May. Please wait for another month to obtain the final draft for the second ISCTasia meeting.

We just opened ISCTasia office at National Cancer Center in Tokyo where Dr. Yuji Heike and Takako Wakeda are supporting the ISCTasia regional operation. This office will help all of you communicate with each other and exchange the information to activate the research and development of cellular therapy in Asia. Please feel free to contact the ISCTasia office at any time through our website.

Thank you again for your support and we are looking forward to working together with you.

Sincerely,
Akihiko Shimosaka PhD
Vice President, ISCTasia
